The Library subscribes to numerous Australian databases via the Informit interface. This includes A+ Education, which is the full-text version of the Australian Education Index. Informit also provides us with full-text resources such as Australian Public Affairs — Full Text and Family & Society Plus.
Over the last 12 months there have been some changes to the Informit interface so it might be a good moment review what these are and to remind ourselves of the important education resources available here.
The most obvious change is the new version 3 interface. New tabs at the top of the page allow you to move easily between Search, Titles and other Databases.
The search screen has merged the old guided and standard search and brought together the Search, Indexes and Thesauri options. There is also an improvement in cross-database searching with the addition of field searching options of “All Subject fields” and “All Author fields”.
Informit now also allows you to export citation information directly to Endnote at the save screen. When you select “Endnote Direct” your Endnote program will open automatically allowing you to select the library you wish to export records into.
The Titles tab allows easy browsing through the different titles and issues contained in the full-text databases and Informit e-Library.
A new peer-review indicator is present for journals listed in the full-text databases and the Informit e-Library Collections.
An RSS feed function now allows you to be alerted when new titles are added to a database or when new issues are available for your favourite journal.
Other databases/resources available via Informit include:
- The Humanities and Social Sciences Collection (Informit e-Library) which contains ebooks, journals, research papers, conferences etc
- Australasian Education Directory (AED)
- Australian Sport Database (AUSPORT)
- Database on English Language Teaching for Adults in Australasia (DELTAA)
- Australian Industrial Relations Databases (IREL)
- Multicultural Australia and Immigrant Studies (MAIS)
- WORKLIT
As always, I am very happy to show any staff member through resources such those contained in Informit.
